The Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) is a medium-sized and predominantly nocturnal heron found throughout much of the world. This species is found in both fresh- and saltwater marshes. It is a colonial nester like most herons. The scientific name is derived from Greek for “night raven”.
