ARTIST'S NOTES

This illustration of a Three-toed Sloth was completed in February 2017. It's based upon a photograph I took in Costa Rica in 2010 of a sloth that was crawling low in the trees along the side of the road. I enjoyed doing this illustration, though sloth hair is difficult to render as it's basically a series of cowlicks. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed drawing it.

INFORMATION ABOUT BROWN-THROATED THREE-TOED SLOTH

The Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth (or Brown-throated Sloth) is the most common of the four recognized species of three-toed sloth. It is found in tropical woodlands from Nicaragua south to central South America. They often sleep 15 to 18 hours per day, descending from the trees once every eight days on average to defecate. They are herbivorous, with individuals often favoring the leaves of particular trees.
